Creating Hope Together Action Plan 2026-2029 Easy Read
Easy read version of Scotland's Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2026-2029.
Introduction
The Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) have made a strategy to lower suicides in Scotland. This covers 2022 to 2032. A strategy is a long term plan.
COSLA is the voice of Local Government in Scotland.
This is a new 3 year action plan for 2026 to 2029.
The action plan says what will be done, who will do it and how this will help prevent suicide. It is based on learning from:
- people who have been suicidal or who have lost someone to suicide
- communities
- research
- children and young people
Suicide is complicated. Some people are more at risk than others for different reasons. This is why everyone working together is important.
Suicide risk can be increased by:
- poverty
- loneliness
- discrimination. Discrimination means unfair treatment of a person because of their race, gender, age religion or disability
- trauma
- housing issues
- work or school stress
- mental health issues
- other difficult events
The action plan looks at what can be done by the government, businesses and services to help lower the number of suicides. Together we can improve things.
