Coronavirus (COVID 19): Advisory Sub-Group on Education and Children’s Issues minutes: 8 September 2020

Minutes from the tenth meeting of the COVID-19 Advisory Group held on Tuesday 8 September 2020.

Items and actions

1. The sub-group received updates on a variety of issues, including advice on ventilation, aerosol transmission, fomites, COVID-19 symptoms in children, and the impact on children of lockdown.  They agreed to dedicate more time in a future meeting to considering the impact on children of lockdown.

2. The sub-group considered the first iteration of Public Health Scotland’s systematic review of recent research relevant to their remit.  In combination with a dashboard of school attendance data this enabled a discussion of the current state of knowledge and practice relating to COVID-19 in schools.  The sub-group will review this evidence on a fortnightly basis, to support consideration of whether any of its advice requires to be updated.

3. The sub-group received a presentation on risk communication.  Members acknowledged the complexity in current messaging.  To take this forwards, it was agreed to link with the main Advisory Group’s consideration of these issues.
