Coronavirus (COVID 19): Advisory Sub-Group on Education and Children’s Issues minutes: 16 October 2020

Minutes from the thirteenth meeting of the COVID-19 Advisory Group held on Friday 16 October 2020.


Items and actions

1. The sub-group reviewed the evidence and experience of school reopening to date, together with fresh scientific evidence including on the role of children in COVID-19 transmission. 

2. The sub-group were commissioned to review all their existing advice in the light of this evidence and consider whether it should be maintained, strengthened / augmented, or relaxed.  

3. Members reviewed each piece of published advice in turn, focussing on physical distancing in schools / ELC, use of face coverings in schools / ELC, movement between settings, and PE, drama and music.  Updated sub-group advice would inform development of updated schools re-opening guidance.  The sub-group highlighted the importance of compliance with school re-opening guidance.
