Cladding Remediation Programme: factsheet

Information for homeowners and residents about the Cladding Remediation Programme.

Homeowners’ (including landlords, institutional owners such as social housing providers) and residents’ responsibilities

An institutional owner has overarching responsibility to ensure that their building is safe for tenants. The owner is advised to express their interest, where the building:

  • has external wall cladding
  • is over 11m in height
  • constructed or developed between 1 June 1992 and 1 June 2022
  • has not yet had an SBA

Homeowners and residents should routinely be mindful of fire prevention in their buildings and take steps to minimise risk. This can include the risk posed by storing belongings in common areas, or blocking escape routes with items. More information is available in the leaflet containing fire safety information for residents of high rise buildings.

For owners and managers there is practical fire safety guidance for high rise multi residential domestic buildings which provides advice on how to prevent and reduce the risks from fires.

The law requires that every home in Scotland has a linked fire alarm, and it is the homeowner’s or landlords responsibility for meeting this standard.
