12. Planning for the review of impact on children’s rights and wellbeing

Monitoring the Impact on Children’s Rights and Wellbeing

The impact of the DRS on children’s rights and wellbeing will be monitored through an ongoing evaluation process to ensure the DRS is implemented equitably and achieves its intended benefits.

  • Engagement with Stakeholders: We will continue to collaborate with organisations that represent or work with children and young people to gather feedback on how circular economy issues are affecting their rights and wellbeing. This will include regular consultations and opportunities for young people to share their views.
  • Feedback from the SA: The SA will be responsible for making sure children and young people can fully participate with DRS. The SA has committed to the development of an engagement strategy to promote DRS and identify any difficulties with the it.
  • Impact Assessments: Periodic reviews will assess the scheme’s environmental, social, and economic impacts, including its effect on children’s rights, such as access to clean environments (Article 6) and equitable participation (Article 2).

We acknowledge the importance of identifying any unintended impacts or opportunities to promote children's rights through all policies. Should further analysis or engagement reveal significant intersections with children’s rights, we will engage with the CRWIA team to ensure that these are appropriately addressed in line with UNCRC requirements.

By embedding these monitoring and review processes, we aim to uphold our commitment to children’s rights and ensure DRS delivers positive outcomes for children and young people in Scotland.
