Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed on 24 January 2026.
Confirmation of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a fifth premises near Penicuik, Scottish Borders on 24 January 2026.
A 3 km Protection Zone (PZ) and 10 km Surveillance Zone (SZ) were declared.
An end to these disease control zones was declared on 16 March 2026, following completion of cleansing, disinfection and mandatory surveillance requirements.
This means all restrictions within this area have been lifted.
