Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a second premises near Penicuik, Midlothian on 12 February 2026.

A 3 km Protection Zone (PZ) was declared.

An end to the Protection Zone was declared 9 March 2026.

This means that all restrictions within this area have been lifted.
