Atlanto Scandian Herring Fisheries Management Plan
The Atlanto Scandian herring (ASH) Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) is one of 43 FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS).This FMP sets out the policies and actions to manage the Atlanto-Scandian herring (ASH) stocks at sustainable levels.
Why an FMP for Atlanto-Scandian herring?
ASH is a stock of herring caught mainly as part of a directed pelagic fishery. ASH is found within UK waters of ICES area 2a and also outside of UK waters. Although catches of ASH are small in comparison to other multi-party pelagic stocks, the landed value in 2023 was worth £5.5 million to the UK fleet and because of its commercial significance ASH was prioritised for an FMP. In recent years, all ASH landings by UK vessels have been from Norwegian waters.
