Affordable Housing Supply Programme (AHSP) - Deliverability Review
Affordable Housing Supply Programme (AHSP) Deliverability Review
Role of Affordable Housing in Supporting Scottish Government objectives
The delivery of high-quality affordable homes has a bearing on all four of the First Minister’s priorities: to eradicate child poverty, to grow Scotland’s economy, to tackle the climate emergency by investment in green energy and infrastructure and, to improve Scotland’s public service as an investment in Scotland’s future health, equality and prosperity. The fact that housing is foundational to Scotland’s social, economic and environmental objectives is also reflected in the proposal for a new National Outcome on housing.
A key commitment as part of our long-term approach to the delivery of affordable homes across Scotland was the setting of an ambitious affordable housing delivery target. The Scottish Government is committed to delivering 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, at least 70% of which will be for social rent and 10% in rural and island areas. This review offers an opportunity to consider deliverability of the programme, recognising the significant challenges facing the housing sector.
