Additional Support for Learning action plan: final progress report
Final progress report from the Additional Support for Learning Project Board.
Next steps
Janie McManus, the Scottish Governments Professional Advisor for Education, is currently leading a short, sharp review of Additional Support for Learning, which will report before the end of this Parliamentary term.
The review will be rigorous and evidence-informed, and will focus on:
- The national and local system conditions that support ASN delivery
- The experiences of delivery in schools; and
- How policy is translating into effective practice
This review is intentionally designed to focus on the existing evidence-base and to take forward feedback from previous reviews, particularly about the capacity and complexity within the system. It will consider this final Progress Report and the reflections of the ASL Project Board, as part of the evidence. Recognising the challenges that remain and the opportunities available, the review will set out what needs to happen next to strengthen our delivery.
On completion of the review led by Janie McManus, the Scottish Government, COSLA and ADES will sensitively consider what governance mechanisms should be created to effectively support the delivery of Additional Support for Learning.
