1,587 pupils at Primary stages and 383 S3 pupils included in the Achievement of CfE Levels data are in Gaelic medium schools/classes.

The proportions of pupils achieving expected levels in Gàidhlig at primary stages in 2024-25 were lower than in 2023-24, but higher than in any other previous year for reading, writing and overall literacy.

Pupils receiving a Gaelic medium education are also assessed in English (from P7 onwards) and numeracy (from P4 onwards).

A higher proportion of P7 pupils receiving Gaelic medium education achieved expected levels in English literacy and numeracy organisers than pupils as a whole. P7 pupils receiving Gaelic medium education performed better than the average by four percentage points in literacy and by two percentage points in numeracy.

Similarly, the proportion of S3 pupils receiving Gaelic medium education achieving third level or better was nine percentage points higher for English literacy and six percentage points higher for numeracy.

For S3 pupils achieving fourth level, the pattern was reversed with pupils receiving  Gaelic medium education less likely to achieve fourth level than pupils as a whole. Compared to all pupils, those receiving Gaelic medium education were four percentage points lower in literacy and eleven lower in numeracy at fourth level.

Detailed results for pupils in Gaelic medium education can be found in Table 8 of the supplementary tables.
