Medical Devices Committee

Overview

This committee provides leadership and offers direction to NHS Scotland in its preparation for the future UK medical devices regulatory regime due to be implemented in 2025.

It will:

  • seek to enhance preparedness by commissioning short life working groups with the relevant subject matter expertise to develop unified approaches or national guidance where useful
  • oversee the support required to NHS boards to comply with regulations and national guidance by supporting local board medical device policies and developing a Monitoring and Improvement Framework
  • advise the SG Medical Devices Policy Unit on the delivery of a Scottish Government Medical Device Policy Framework and Action Plan
  • direct issues to the appropriate national structures, where possible. For example, service-specific issues would be handled by their respective board governance groups, like the Diagnostics Steering Group, Digital Portfolio Board or National Infrastructure Board
