General Medical Services (GMS) Oversight Group

Overview

The National General Medical Services (GMS) Oversight group has been created to support implementation of the 2018 Scottish General Medical Services Contract.

The purpose of the group is to :

  • provide broad strategic direction, scrutiny and advice on the implementation of the 2018 GMS contract. It supports a joined up approach to implementation, helping implementation to connect with, and align with, other work being progressed in other parts of the healthcare system
  • ensure that the changes set out in the terms of the 2018 Contract are implemented in the context of the priorities and primary care development set out in the memorandum of understanding
  • form a view on, and challenge where required, progress with implementation as set out in the Health and Social Care Partnership Primary Care Improvement Plans, respecting local implementation planning arrangements
  • promote and enable the sharing of best practice and common approaches to the wider health system, ensuring engagement with key interested parties around learning to help support local decisions around primary care provision
