West Coast of Scotland and Clyde Herring Fisheries Management Plan

Scope

This FMP relates to WoS and Clyde herring (Clupea harengus) which consists of the WoS and Clyde fisheries in UK waters covering the ICES areas 5b and 6.

For management purposes, WoS herring is defined as herring caught in 5b, 6b, and 6aN. Clyde herring is defined as the herring stock in the maritime area situated to the north-east of a line drawn between: — the Mull of Kintyre (55° 17.9' N, 05° 47.8' W); — a point at position 55° 04' N, 05° 23' W, and; — Corsewall Point (55° 00.5' N, 05° 09.4' W). The ICES advice relevant to this stock covers herring in Division 6.a (North).

The 2020 Act requires the relevant authority, or authorities, to prepare and publish FMPs in accordance with the list and timetable included in the JFS.^[1] The relevant authorities for this FMP are the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), the and the Scottish Government.^[2] The plan has been prepared and published jointly by the relevant authorities for the purposes of the 2020 Act. As the coordinating authority, the Scottish Government has coordinated the preparation and management of this plan on behalf of the other relevant authorities.^[3]
