This ICIA examines the domestic maritime sector’s inclusion in the UK ETS and its potential impact on Scotland’s island and peninsula communities. It reviews evidence, consultation responses, and mitigation measures, to avoid disproportionate social and economic effects.
5. Conclusion
Island and peninsula communities rely on ferry services to varying degrees. However, given the exemption applies across all relevant routes, none of these communities are expected to experience different impacts from the UK ETS expansion compared with mainland areas—or with each other—during the exemption period.
