Proposed national Good Food Nation Plan consultation: statement
This statement on the consultation on the proposed national Good Food Nation Plan, as required by section 4(5) of the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022, sets out how consultation throughout the development of the Plan has informed the approach taken.
Legislative requirement
- Section 1 of the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act 2022 (“the Act”) requires Scottish Ministers to publish and lay before the Scottish Parliament a national Good Food Nation Plan.
- Before complying with the requirement under section 1 of the Act, the Scottish Ministers must lay the proposed national Good Food Nation Plan (“the proposed plan”)[1] before the Scottish Parliament for a period of 60 days. This is provided for in section 3 of the Act.
- Section 4(1) of the Act sets out that the Scottish Ministers must (a) publish, and consult on, a draft of the plan and (b) have regard to any responses to the consultation.
- Section 4(2) of the Act sets out that the Scottish Ministers should consult with whom they consider appropriate.
- Section 4(3) and (4) of the Act provide that, when carrying out the consultation, the Scottish Ministers must have regard to the importance of communicating in an inclusive way and in a way that is effective in engaging children and young people.
- Section 4(5) of the Act sets out that when laying the proposed plan before the Scottish Parliament the Scottish Ministers must publish a statement summarising: the consultation process undertaken in order to comply with the requirements under section 4(1)(a) and, any responses to the consultation. The statement must also set out how the Scottish Ministers have had regard to the responses to the consultation and the importance of communicating in an inclusive way.
