How the Scottish Government makes social media posts accessible and user friendly.
We’re continuously working to make the Scottish Government social media channels accessible and user friendly for all abilities. This includes those with visual, hearing, cognitive or motor impairments.
We try to make our social copy accessible by using:
- plain English and short sentences
- bullet points and line breaks to break up information
- limited emoji use
- camel case for hashtags
- making it clear where a link will direct you to
We try to make our graphic content accessible by using:
- high colour contrast
- large font sizes
- alternative text, also known as alt text to describe the appearance or function of an image on a page
We try to make our video content accessible by using:
- subtitles
- easy to read fonts
- plain English
- voiceovers for all text
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
- Facebook and Instagram stories are incompatible with screen reader technology
- Any key information shared on Facebook or Instagram stories should also be shared on the Instagram grid and Facebook homepage. This ensures that everyone has access to the information we share.
