Guidance on how assessment of the economic and social impacts of marine projects should be conducted and presented alongside marine licence applications for larger-scale projects, such as offshore renewables, EIA-scale port projects and larger subsea cable applications.

8. Application process

The SESI is expected to be submitted alongside applications for marine licences. The SESI provides information to support decision making by Scottish Ministers in accordance with policies GEN 2 (economic benefit), GEN 3 (social benefit) and GEN 19 (sound evidence) of Scotland’s National Marine Plan.

Prospective applicants may seek advice on the regulatory process and submission requirements from the Marine Directorate – Licensing Operations Team. Further information and contact details are available via the Scottish Government’s marine licensing and consenting webpages[13].
