Social care - Independent Review Panel minutes: January 2023 - easy read

Minutes of the Independent Review Panel meeting in January 2023.

Update on stakeholder engagement

Stakeholders are people and organisations who support our work.

Engagement is when we communicate with people or have events to find out what they think about things.

The Chair and Vice Chair talked about the expert witness meetings that have happened.

Expert witness meetings happen between the Chair, Vice Chair and people who know a lot about:

  • social care services
  • how social care services are checked and inspected
  • the rules in social care services

The Panel suggested other people and organisations for the Chair and Vice Chair to get in touch with.

The secretariat team will give information about the IRISR stakeholder engagement at the February meeting.

Update on stakeholder information

The secretariat will share information with the Panel on Objective Connect.

Objective Connect is a safe way for a group to share documents online.

The information is about:

  • stakeholder engagement
  • research - getting facts, figures and information about something
  • links to case studies – a short report about someone’s real experience

Panel discussion - Theme 2: What needs to be inspected, scrutinised and regulated?

The Panel members shared their expertise and opinions about what needs to be inspected and regulated across social care services.

Expertise is when someone knows a lot about something.

Inspected and scrutinised both mean checked and looked at very closely.

Regulated means making rules about something.

The next Panel discussion will be: How should inspection, scrutiny and regulation be carried out?

Date of next meeting

The next Independent Review Panel meeting will be on 2 February from 11am to 1pm at COSLA Conference Centre, Edinburgh.
