Key messages (see Chapter 11 in the full report)
As indicated, the overall objective of this research was to provide an in-depth and focused assessment of the operation of the CCUs, the experiences of the women who live in them, the staff who work within them and the partner organisations which deliver services into the CCUs. A considerable number of encouraging practices were observed, as well as some challenges and barriers in regard to implementing a gender-specific and trauma-informed approach in the CCUs. Below is a distillation of 19 key messages from the research findings. These encapsulate the ways in which the CCUs are operating, and the ways in which gender-specific and trauma-informed approaches are conceptualised, implemented and experienced.
