You asked for further information about the Scottish Government's social monitoring activity over the past five years.

Response

The Scottish Government Communications Division uses a tool called Brandwatch to deliver social monitoring. Brandwatch is a digital consumer intelligence platform. It is used by the Scottish Government to monitor reactions to paid-for-media marketing activity conducted by the Scottish Government for evaluation purposes, as and when appropriate.

The annual cost of the Brandwatch license over the past five years at St Andrews House, Regent Road, Edinburgh, is as follows:

2023-24 - £32,400.00

2022-23 - £25,400.00

2021-22 - £19,859.92

2020-21 - £17,712.30

2019-20 - £17,360.00

The Scottish Government does not monitor any specific accounts on any platform, whether Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. The Scottish Government does not monitor any named individuals on any platform.
