Scottish government response to "reimagining secure care" report
This document sets out the Scottish Government’s response to the ‘Reimagining secure care: a vision for the future’ report published by the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) in September 2024.
12. Conclusion
In response to recent secure care capacity pressures, we have prioritised stabilisation through targeted contingency measures, including significant funding, updated guidance, and new national resources.
Looking ahead, our two-phased approach - focusing on restoring capacity and on building a sustainable, resilient system - will drive meaningful change. By improving data, strengthening system integration, testing new approaches, and reforming funding and commissioning arrangements, we aim to create a secure care system that meets the needs of children now and in the future. Underpinning this work will be our continued collaboration with the professionals and experts working on a daily basis with children and young people.
We are grateful to CYCJ for their work on the ‘reimagining secure care’ report - a significant contribution that has informed the actions outlined in this response.
