Scottish Government Prevention Unit Plan
The Scottish Government Prevention Unit Plan sets out the purpose, objectives, and strategic priorities of the Prevention Unit. It describes the Unit's future work programme and how it seeks to connect with partners to support the shift towards prevention across Scotland.
Key objectives
The Scottish Government Prevention Unit has been set up to deliver on three key objectives – to deliver on prevention in Public Service Reform, connect up work on prevention across Government and wider public sector, and embed prevention in strategy and delivery (Figure 1).
Figure 1 – Scottish Government Prevention Unit Objectives
1. Delivering on prevention in public service reform
Deliver the Prevention Pillar of the Public Service Reform Strategy, embedding prevention within strategic planning, delivery and budgeting to improve outcomes and support long-term fiscal sustainability.
2. Connecting prevention across government
Coordinate prevention activity across the Scottish Government, bringing together priority areas of shared interest and strengthening connections with key delivery and research partners.
3. Building capacity for prevention
Develop the tools, capabilities and culture needed to embed preventative approaches across the public sector.
In delivering on these objectives, the Unit aims to have a meaningful impact on prevention in Scotland, with a view to improving Scotland’s National Outcomes and reducing demands on public services.
