Scottish Employer Skills Survey 2020

Summary of the purpose of the Scottish Employer Skills Survey 2020.

The Employer Skills Survey (ESS) is the principal source for employer views on skill shortages, skill gaps and employer led training activity.  The 2020 Scottish survey also includes some questions on the skills related impacts of COVID-19.

The Scottish ESS 2020 will involve telephone interviews with a random sample of 3,500 business establishments across Scotland.  The sample will be representative of businesses across Scotland in terms of size, sector and geographic region.

The Scottish Government has commissioned IFF Research to deliver the Scottish ESS 2020.  Business establishments in Scotland may receive a phone call from IFF Research inviting them to participate in the survey.

Participation of Scottish businesses in the survey will ensure that the Scottish Government and other organisations can help employers in Scotland by better understanding their needs in terms of recruitment, skills and training, including in relation to the impact of COVID-19.  Your participation and support is much appreciated.
