Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024: Support and Information for People Receiving Cancer Care

This report presents additional analysis of the Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024.

Data and methodology

Survey responses

4,540 people completed the survey, with a response rate of 53%. You can find the number of responses by cancer group, health board of residence, SIMD, age group, employment, conditions and other characteristics in the “Survey Response” section on the 2024 Cancer Patient Experience Survey Technical Report

Confidence intervals and statistically significant results

When comparisons have been made in the analysis of the survey results, the effects of sampling error have been taken into account, using confidence intervals. Only differences that are statistically significant are described in the report.

We reported 95% confidence intervals in the results tables and in the charts, where appropriate.

Limitations

  • survey questions are analysed by one variable at a time. Controlling for intervening or confounding factors, or interactions, is out of the scope of the analysis in this report
  • we are not reporting on results where fewer than 20 people in a group have provided an answer, in accordance with our disclosure control rules
  • although we take steps for our survey to be inclusive and facilitate participation for people with different abilities, responses to a survey for cancer patients are affected by the survivability of the sample and by participants’ ability to fill in the questionnaire

For more information on the data and methodology of the survey please see the 2024 Cancer Patient Experience Survey Technical Report.
