ScotPayments
A shared system that lets public bodies make payments to people and organisations.
About ScotPayments
ScotPayments is a payment service designed and built by the Scottish Government for public sector use.
The service has features specially designed for government use, making it quicker and easier than using older systems or off-the-shelf products.
As a common platform, ScotPayments works with organisations' existing technology. When updates are needed, the ScotPayments team can make changes once, rather than each organisation updating their own system.
ScotPayments is part of the Digital Strategy to transform public services.
Who can use ScotPayments
Public sector organisations can use it to make payments to people or organisations.
Make outbound payments
ScotPayments is an established Bacs approved bureau that processes payments on behalf of partner organisations. Currently, it is used for staff salaries, supplier payments and payments to people in Scotland.
Verify bank details
ScotPayments offers a bank detail verification service called Confirmation of Payee. This helps staff check bank details before making payments, reducing fraud and errors.
Any public sector organisation can use this verification service without needing to make payments through ScotPayments.
Cost
ScotPayments is currently centrally funded and will work with organisations to onboard to the platform with no additional costs to your organisation.
Work is ongoing to agree how the service is funded, but it is expected to be similar to other payment providers, if ScotPayments does begin to charge users.
