Proposed National Good Food Nation Plan: Equality Impact Assessment

An equality impact assessment for the proposed national Good Food Nation Plan. An updated version will be published alongside the final national Good Food Nation Plan in late 2025.

Executive summary

This EQIA covers the first iteration of the national Good Food Nation Plan (“the Plan”). The Plan introduces six new overarching Outcomes which indicate key areas of focus that enable us to further develop our status as a Good Food Nation. Other than these Outcomes, the Plan is primarily a collection of existing policies, indicators and targets that relate to food. The Plan brings these together in one place for the first time to facilitate a joined up and coherent approach to food policy, but the policies themselves are not new.

We expect that in making progress towards achieving the Outcomes the overall impact across equality groups will be positive or neutral. It should, however, be noted that any new policies developed while having regard to the Plan will be subject to their own impact assessments.

This is a partial EQIA, which will be further updated following planned consultation with key representative groups to collect evidence on lived experience over summer and autumn 2025. These updates will also be informed by any Parliamentary representations, resolutions or reports relating to the proposed Plan which are made or published This EQIA should therefore be considered a partial EQIA, which will be supplemented with further evidence and finalised later in the year.
