Commercial fishery for razor clams using electric current gear consultation: partial BRIA
A partial business and regulatory impact assessment (BRIA) analysing possible outcomes of the consultation on establishing a commercial fishery for razor clams using electric current fishing gear.
10. Enforcement, Sanctions and Monitoring
The scientific trial operates with the enforcement by Scottish Sea Fisheries Officers. The monitoring of fishing activity and fishing vessels is undertaken daily with reference to established terms and conditions. REM monitoring is active on all vessels with an active current derogation to participate in the trial. We would expect this to continue in the case of a new scientific trial.
Details of enforcement were there to be a commercial fishery would be subject to consultation views and determinations to be made in dialogue with relevant teams within the Scottish Government.
Should the consultation outcome be that commercial fishing for razor clams be prohibited, this would be enforced as is routine for all inshore fisheries enforcement activity.
