National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2025: final business and regulatory impact assessment
The business and regulatory impact assessment (BRIA) considers the potential impact of the amendment to the General Dental Services regulations on businesses.
Section 4: Additional implementation considerations
Enforcement/ compliance
Guidance regarding these changes will be issued to the dental sector in advance of the changes coming into force. In addition, for prior approval, the practice management systems which are used by dentists to record treatment plans and submit claims to NSS for payment for NHS course of treatment, will be updated with the new requirements. This will ensure that dentists are aware of what courses of treatment require prior approval.
For mandatory training, dentists will be required to notify the NHS Board on whose dental list they are listed provisionally to notify them of the outcome of mandatory training. For those dentists who have not successfully completed mandatory training, if they were to choose not to notify the Health Board of the outcome there is a mechanism in place that requires the Health Board to remove them from the dental list after a set period of time.
