National Collaborative: Call for Nominations papers

National Mission on Drugs: National Collaborative - supporting documents for the Call for Nominations.

Purpose of the Reference Group

The purpose of a Reference Group is to provide additional advice and expertise to the National Collaborative and enable greater participation by seeking to take account of a wide range of experiences and perspectives. The work with the Change Team through the FAIR model will be a deliberative process and will require a significant time commitment from members. Where this is not possible, for example for people who can’t travel or work in groups, we want to facilitate participation in the National Collaborative decision making through participation in additional reference groups.

Membership

Membership of the Reference Group will be open to all, including members of the public, but will include a large representation from those with experience of and affected by problem substance use and from professionals working in the alcohol and drugs sector or a related sector.

Pre-existing groups are encouraged to put themselves forward as a standing reference group and contribute their valuable expertise.

Remit

Members of the reference group can contribute to the National Collaborative in a number of ways which may include:

  • informing the approach and providing advice for the process as a whole
  • commenting on draft versions of written documents as requested
  • advising on the quality, limitations and appropriate use of evidence
  • highlighting relevant practice and implementation issues
  • supporting communication activity & helping to promote awareness of the National Collaborative

Meetings

Reference Group members are not required to attend meetings but may, at times, wish to meet virtually to discuss issues as a group.

Pre-existing groups will be welcome to invite the Change Team, Coordination and Communities Team or SG Support Team to provide updates and participate in local meetings.

Secretariat

Reference groups will be self-sustaining but the Secretariat will provide support by sharing relevant information and receiving advice/ input and attending relevant meetings where capacity allows.
