Marine and fisheries operations: future vessel concepts
Information about the concept designs for next generation compliance and research vessels. These have been developed to replace ageing assets and ensuring continued capability for Scotland's marine priorities.
Overview
Marine Directorate intends to procure a new Compliance Vessel to replace MPV Minna. The vessel will operate year-round in the Scottish part of the UK EEZ and adjacent regulatory areas, supporting marine and fisheries compliance and through monitoring and inspection operations.
Indicative principal particulars
Maximum Length Overall: 85.0 m
Maximum Breadth: 15.0 m
Maximum Draught: 6.0 m
Maximum Air Draught: 25.0 m
Endurance: 28 days at a service speed of 12 knots
Maximum Speed: 18.25 knots
Crew: 24
Propulsion and energy concept
Twin-screw CPP arrangement with dual-fuel readiness (Marine Gas Oil and Methanol). Hybrid capability with battery support for low-emission operations and shore power interface.
Mission concept
The vessel will deploy boarding craft (two RIBs and one daughter craft) for inspection duties. Boarding craft will deploy from enclosed boat hanger, daughter craft from main deck aft. Launch and recovery systems will ensure safe operations in challenging sea states. Daughter craft will be equipped with accommodation facilities.
Environmental and compliance goals
Design will meet UK MCA requirements, Lloyd’s Register classification (or other UK recognised Class Organisation), and IMO environmental standards. Emphasis on low emissions, energy efficiency, and compliance with ballast water and sewage treatment regulations.
