Assessing the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Cluster (SAIC): island communities impact assessment

This assessment considers how making SAIC an independent, voluntary innovation body may affect Scotland’s island communities. It finds no distinct adverse impacts, with likely benefits from better access to collaboration, best practice and remote engagement.

Step Three – Consultation:

Who do you need to consult with?

No consultation is required at this stage.

How will you carry out your consultation and in what timescales?

Not applicable.

What questions will you ask when considering how to address island realities?

Not applicable.

What information has already been gathered through consultations and what concerns have been raised previously by island communities?

No concerns have been identified, as the proposal is internal and non-spatial.

Is your consultation robust and meaningful and sufficient to comply with the Section 7 duty?

Yes, based on the nature of the proposal, consultation is not required.

Formal consultation has not been undertaken as the proposal does not introduce regulation, does not remove or reduce existing services, does not create differential access to public services, and is voluntary and enabling.

Existing sector evidence and prior engagement within aquaculture policy development have informed the assessment of island considerations.

This approach is considered proportionate to the nature of the proposal and compliant with the Section 7 duty.
