Healthy Attendance? The Impact of Cultural Engagement and Sports Participation on Health and Satisfaction with Life in Scotland

Data from the Scottish Household Survey 2011 has been used to statistically explore the relationship between taking part in cultural and sporting activities, attending cultural places and key quality of life measures in Scotland. This report presents the findings of the analysis of this relationship.

C) Description of the analysis

We have used SAS to analyse the SHS 2011 data. For all of our models the analysis involved a number of stages:

1) Creating the derived variables
2) Checking the frequencies for the derived variables
3) Excluding the 'missing' and 'don't know' responses from the analysis
4) Running crosstab to make sure the associations between variables of interest are significant
5) Selecting the significantly associated variables for further analysis
6) Checking collinearity between selected variables
7)Running binary logistic regression using the selected variables
8) Analysing the findings
