Introduction

This report contains information about the methodology and background of the 2025 to 2026 Health and Care Experience (HACE) Survey. It is intended primarily for more technical users who wish to understand how the survey was designed, delivered and analysed. It does not present survey results. Please refer to the 2025 to 2026 Health and Care Experience Survey National Report for the results of the survey.

One of the data sources used to calculate the weights for the 2025 to 2026 survey was updated to use more up to date data. The weighting methodology itself remains unchanged, but this update has a minor impact on comparisons with previous survey rounds. More details on the impact of this can be found under weighting in the analysis and report writing section of this report.

The Health and Care Experience survey

The Health and Care Experience survey asks about peoples’ experiences of accessing and using their General Practice and other local healthcare services; receiving care, support and help with everyday living; and caring responsibilities.

The survey is run in partnership by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland. Both the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland are involved in the planning and organisation of the survey, as well as analysing and reporting on the survey responses.
