Future Planners Programme 2025: candidate guide
Guidance for candidates applying to the 2025 Scottish Government Future Planners Programme.
Planning as a career
Planners shape the future. With a career in planning, you could help to plan a sustainable future for our communities, environment, health, wellbeing and heritage. It is an incredibly varied career with something for everyone.
Planners impact people's lives by:
- tackling climate change
- working on projects of a variety of scales, from small projects to city planning
- conserving our heritage
- improving local environments
- building sustainable solutions
The planning system is used to make decisions about future development, and the use of land in our towns, cities and countryside. It decides where development should happen, where it should not, and how development affects its surroundings.
Scotland needs new planners – hear what Scotland’s young planners love about their job.
