Timetable for publication of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results: FOI release

Information requested

(1) the full timetable of publication of the full Scottish results of the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

(2) In addition, I would be grateful for information about whether there will be any publication of initial Scottish results. The OECD website says that 'the initial results will be released on 8 September 2026' (https://www.oecd.org/en/about/programmes/pisa.html), but the Scottish government website does not mention this. In previous rounds of PISA, the results have been issued in December.

Response

1. Scotland’s national PISA 2025 report is scheduled to be published on 8th September 2026, in line with the OECD international release timetable. The report will include broadly similar analysis to that contained in Scotland’s PISA 2022 publication. The full Scotland dataset will also be made available through the OECD’s international online database, as in previous PISA cycles.

2. There will not be a separate earlier publication of initial Scottish results ahead of 8 September 2026. The OECD’s reference to “initial results” relates to the international release of the main PISA 2025 findings on that date. As in previous cycles, the OECD is expected to publish further thematic analysis at later dates following the main release. Any further Scotland national level publications are yet to be determined.
