Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
Information requested
1) Outstanding IDRPs by Year: The total number of Internal Dispute Resolution Procedures (IDRPs) that were resolved or outstanding at the end of each calendar year for the past five years (Oct 2021-Oct 2025), broken down by year.
2) Current Compensation Claims: The number of claims for compensation relating to failure to deliver pension payments on time and the number of outstanding claims awaiting resolution, as at the date of this request. Please provide this information in a clear format, with data separated by year where applicable.
Response
1) . Each of the five devolved public service pension schemes has an internal dispute resolution procedure (IDRP). Members may appeal to the Scottish Ministers under a single-stage procedure for the Firefighters, NHS, Police and Teachers, schemes, and at the second stage of the appeals process under the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
IDRP covers appeals raised on medical grounds (in relation to ill-health retirement) for the LGPS, NHS and Teachers schemes and non-medical grounds for all schemes. The breakdown of casework the last five years to October 2025 is:

At 30 September 2025, there were 90 open cases across the five schemes.
2) No claims have been received in relation to late payments of pension.
