  • Details of any money (including compensation) which has been paid by Government agents (or anyone acting for them) as a result of the Salvesen v Riddell or Stoddart v The Coulston Trust cases?
  • Please provide a breakdown of each instance/payout.

  • The answer to your question is:

(i)Total costs incurred by the Scottish Ministers in relation to litigation arising as a result of the cases referred to in the request: £2,095,088.24.

Breakdown:

  • litigation involving tenant farmers: £1,033,302.75; and
  • litigation involving landlords: £1,061,785.49.

(ii)Total costs incurred by the Scottish Ministers in relation to the Scottish Government funded independent mediation offered to landlords and tenants affected by the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Salvesen v Riddell: £92,981.52.
