Scottish Public Pensions Agency Police Contingent Decision queries: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

I am seeking the following information from the Scottish Public Pensions Agency with regards to Police Contingent Decisions:

1. How many contingent applications are still 'paused' (this applies to contingent applications made by persons that left the Police Pension Scheme between March 2012 and March 2015)?

2. How many contingent application decisions have been re opened (this applies to contingent applications made by persons that left the Police Pension Scheme after March 2015)?

Response

Questions 1 and 2 are answered in the response below:

The pause applied to members who were in the 1987 scheme before CARE. Members could apply to reinstate their service for the Remedy period if they opted out between 12 March 2012 and 28 February 2022. A total of 55 members applications have been accepted to date.

The pause remains in place for members who opted out before and during the Remedy period, and who rejoined within the Remedy period. 51 members fall into this category.

  • Members who opted out before 01/04/2015: 19 in total.
  • Members who opted out from 01/04/2015: 32 in total.

The pause was lifted for members who opted out from 01/04/2015 and didn’t rejoin until after 31/03/2022. Four members fall into this category.
