Correspondence relating to Scottish Ministers attending events involving the King or the Royal Family: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

“Please provide any correspondence, internal notes, or briefing material discussing decisions by Scottish Ministers on whether to attend or not attend events involving the King or Royal Family since 2024.”

Response

Please find three documents attached to the covering email which fall in scope of your request. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption under section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information. The reasons why that exemption applies are explained in the Annex to this letter.

ANNEX A

An exemption applies
An exemption under section s.38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested. This is because the nature of these roles requires the individuals to undertake potentially sensitive information and information contained within individual job descriptions could lead to an individual being identified, and to junior colleagues potentially being subject to unfair or undue scrutiny or criticism. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
