Correspondence regarding rent controls being lifted: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Your request was for 'all documentation held by the Scottish Government, including correspondence sent and received (including internal), minutes/notes from meetings, briefings and analysis, about rent controls being lifted between April 1 2025 and May 1 2025'

Response

I assume that your request is in relation to the ending of The Rent Adjudication (Temporary Modifications) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 which expired on 31 March 2025.

I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some the information you have requested because an exemption under section 30(b)(ii) of FOISA (free and frank exchange of views) applies to some the information requested. This exemption applies because disclosure would, or would be likely to, inhibit substantially the free and frank exchange of views for the purposes of deliberation. This exemption recognises the need for Ministers and officials to have a private space within which to discuss and explore options before the Scottish Government reaches a settled public view.

An exemption also applies to some of the information provided under section 38(1) (b), Third party personal data and these have been noted in the documents.
