Qualifications and training of Rent Officers: FOI release

Information requested

Please provide a breakdown of the professional qualifications currently held by Rent Officers employed by Rent Service Scotland, including the number who are RICS-accredited or possess formal valuation training. If available, please also provide the standard hiring criteria for Rent Officer roles.

Response

Rent Service Scotland Rent Officers are not currently required to hold Professional Qualifications.

The number of Rent Officers RICS accredited is nil. All Rent Officers have received valuation training and this training is refreshed annually, the training is provided by The Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

At the Scottish Government, we use a recruitment framework called ‘Success Profiles’ Success profiles: candidate guide - gov.scot, which is also used across the wider Civil Service.

Rent Officers are band B1, in the recruitment process applicants are asked to demonstrate skills across a broad set of criteria including behaviours, experience and technical. Typical behaviours required for the post of Rent Officer include communicating and influencing, managing a quality service, making effective decisions and delivering at pace. The recruitment framework, including application, CV, interview and assessment aims to give the best possible chance of finding the right person for the job.
