First Minister meeting with US President: FOI release

Information requested

• All briefing materials, briefing packs and documents related to John Swinney’s planned meeting with US President Donald Trump in late July.
• All communications, including but not limited to emails, text messages, and internal memos, concerning the planning, discussion or coordination of this upcoming meeting.

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested at Annex A.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because exemptions apply under section 28(1) – relations within the United Kingdom; section 29(1)(d) – Ministerial private office; section 30(b) – free and frank provision of advice; section 30(c) – the effective conduct of public affairs; section 32(1)(a) - international relations; and section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA apply to that information.
The reasons why the exemption applies are explained in the Annex B to this letter.
