Information requested
- The criteria currently in place by the SPPA that facilitates 2015 Remedy-Remedial Service Statements to be issued to retired teachers by the 31st July 2025 deadline.
- Information on what constitutes a RSS being further delayed until the 31st October 2025 due to ‘significant complexities’ as stated on the SPPA website
Response
System changes are required to process and accurately calculate a number of scenarios that SPPA are not able to define at this point. It is taking longer to get the calculations quality assured and system updates than originally anticipated. The 31 July 2025 date was originally for the issuance of those RSS that could be automated, all other cases which require manual intervention will be completed by 31 October 2025. At this point in time, we are aiming to automate as many RSS as possible but are unable to confirm which cases can be automated and which cannot.
Where an individual has undergone significant life events that affect their pension, these cases cannot always be fully automated and, therefore, require a degree of manual intervention. Examples of what constitute life events can be found detailed upon the SPPA website: https://pensions.gov.scot/teachers#Lifeevents
