Equalities and Human Rights Fund (EHRF) payments to LGBTQI+ organisations: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Under the Freedom of Information Act, I request the annual expenditure on groups of LGBTQIA+ over the last 5 years. This request asks for comprehensive detailed facts for each group included in the abbreviation LGBTQIA+. All detailed expenditure over the 5 years, including one off expenditure and intermittent payments to support these subgroups.

Response

The Scottish Government does not provide funding to “each group included in the abbreviation LGBTQIA+”. Funding is awarded to organisations who promote equality and tackle discrimination and prejudice against protected characteristic groups primarily through our Equalities and Human Rights Fund (EHRF).

The EHRF provides funding to several LGBTQI+ organisations who work to advance the rights and enhance the protections of all LGBTQI+ people in Scotland.

Information on funding awarded to LGBTQI+ organisations, from 2021 – 2024 can be found here: Equality and Human Rights Fund: projects funded - gov.scot

The EHRF has been extended each year from 2024, with all organisations receiving the same level of unding as they did for the financial year 2023-24 (Year 3).

The Scottish Government also funded organisations who work with equalities communities in Scotland from 2017 – 2021, including LGBTQI+ organisations. Information on this funding can be found here: Equality funding: national and intermediary bodies 2017-2021 - gov.scot.

I have also included information on one off expenditure and intermittent payments to LGBTQI+ organisations from 2020 – 2025 in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. An exemption under section 8(1)(b) (Personal Information) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested. This has been applied to names, email addresses and contact numbers where necessary. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, therefore we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
