Correspondencce between Scottish Government and Local Councils regarding Council Tax increase: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Could you supply all documentation held by the Scottish Government, including correspondence sent and received (including internal), minutes/notes from meetings, briefings, about councils raising council tax, between February 15 2025 and March 30 2025?

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested. We have provided all correspondence that we have received and sent within the timescales. However, any personal information has been removed. Briefings within the scope of your request have also been included in the attached document. I would express that for 2025-26 each local authority had full flexibility in setting their own Council Tax rates.

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to some of the information you have requested. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.

About FOI
