What directorate this team falls under if any, and which Scottish Ministers are responsible for signing off major expenditure from the team.
The Scottish Government’s Marketing and Brand team is in the Directorate for Communications and Ministerial Support.
The relevant portfolio ministers are normally responsible for signing off major expenditure from the team (for example, advertising campaign spend). Following the letter issued from Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government to fellow Cabinet Secretaries on 9th August 2024 increased additional scrutiny is now applied to expenditure, including marketing expenditure. In addition to requiring accountable officer (AO) and Cabinet Secretary approval, all marketing expenditure currently requires direct approval from the First Minister.
