NHS Annual Benefit Statements and Deferred Members: FOI release

Information requested

1. How many deferred members are currently unable to access annual benefits statements?
2. I have been informed when enquiring about this previously that a project is underway to make this annual benefits statements available for deferred members. What is the current estimated delivery date?
3. Is there a way for deferred members to transfer their balance to a different pensions fund that provides more transparency?

Response

1. There are 20,869 deferred members in the NHS scheme and we currently do not provide annual benefit statements for all NHS deferred scheme members.
2. We are working on delivering deferred statements to our member portal. The project is currently in the testing phase and will be released when testing is complete. We envisage that will be Q1 2024 (Apr-Jun).
3. Deferred members with over 2 years’ service can only transfer their benefits to another Occupational Defined Benefit Scheme.
