Information requested

The number of refugee and asylum seeking children are registered in Scottish schools at present.

Response

Information on the number of refugee and asylum seeking children in publicly funded schools in Scotland is requested as a part of the annual school census. However, the information collected is known to be incomplete and could be misleading.

The most recent data available is for the September 2021 pupil census which shows that in publicly funded schools in Scotland there were 1,860 children reported as being an asylum seeker and 3,502 children reported as being a refugee.
