Glasgow School of Art (GSA) - Correspondence regarding the 2018 Mackintosh Building fire

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

Details of any correspondence between Scottish Government Officials/ Civil Servants and the Glasgow School of Art, following the 2018 fire at the Mackintosh building. The correspondence should cover the following:

1. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in the immediate aftermath of the incident (from 16 June 2018-August 2018).

2. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in relation to the incident from September 2018 onwards.

3. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in relation to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) report published on 25th January 2022.

4. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in relation to plans and proposals about the future of Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh building

Response

1. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in the immediate aftermath of the incident (from 16 June 2018-August 2018).

1. I attach a copy of the information you have requested under Annex A.

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to some of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, i.e. names and contact details of individuals, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.

2. Any information/ comment/ conclusion in relation to the incident from September 2018 onwards.
